Lazaro Ramos, Mega Millions Winner, Quits Donut Shop Job After Matching 5 Numbers (VIDEO)

WATCH: Donut Man Quits After Mega Millions Win

A donut shop worker got the surprise of his life Saturday when he encountered CBS2 reporter Mike Dinow at USA Donuts and Croissant in El Monte, Calif.

Lazaro Ramos, who works at another donut shop in Whittier, asked Dinow out of curiosity what the winning Mega Millions numbers were (46 - 23 - 38 - 4 - 2 - 23). To his delight, Ramos found out right then and there that he had matched five out of six of the numbers and could now look forward to a $227,955 payout, reports CBS2.

Within the hour, Ramos had quit his donut shop job and announced plans to return home to Guatemala and open up his own eatery.

While no one in California won the Mega Millions $640 million jackpot, 29 Golden State residents did match five out of six of the numbers, which means they're entitled to the same amount of money that Ramos is.

Three lottery tickets that matched all six of the numbers were sold in Maryland, Illinois and Kansas. As of Saturday night, none of the jackpot winners had come forward yet, according to a Mega Millions spokesperson.
