Arlington Tornado 2012: Extensive Damage Reported In Tarrant County, Dallas Area (LIVE UPDATES)

Extensive Tornado Damage Reported In Arlington, Dallas Area

One place that seems to have been hit particularly hard by today's tornadoes in Texas is the city of Arlington, which sits just west of Dallas.

At least one tornado is believed to have swept through the city, which has a population in excess of 350,000 and is home to both the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

Multiple reports of damage were posted to the Dallas-Fort Worth Police scanner Twitter account, including the following updates:

The Arlington Fire Department also confirmed at least one tornado had been spotted on the ground.

There were rumors of damage to the Six Flags amusement park in Arlington, but weather enthusiast Nathan Beard refuted those reports.

"UPDATE: There has been NO DAMAGE to the Six Flags in Arlington. Just heavy rain," Beard said in a Twitter update.

In response to the extensive damage caused by the tornadoes, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck has declared a state of disaster for the city, according to CNN.

Correction: Nathan Beard's affiliation with The Weather Channel was incorrectly stated in an earlier version of this story. Despite TWC in his Twitter name, he is not an employee of The Weather Channel.
