I always know when it's 2 p.m. -- no watch required. It's the same every day, no matter how many hours I have slept the night before. My eyelids become heavy, and I get that fuzzy-thinking feeling. Yep, it's nap time.
If you're like me, the most important thing to know is that this is normal. We typically have two periods of intense sleepiness in a 24-hour cycle, once between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. and another about 10 hours later. An ideal nap is 20 to 45 minutes long. Even a 20-minute nap can promote alertness, concentration, coordination and an enhanced mood.
