Nikki Haley: 'There Is No War On Women'

Haley Speaks Out On 'War On Women'

Nikki Haley objected to the idea that the GOP is waging a "war on women," telling Fox News on Monday that "women are doing well" and shouldn't be characteried as "victims."

The Republican South Carolina governor, whose national star has risen over the past few weeks as speculation grows about her vice presidential prospects, told "The O'Reilly Factor" guest host Laura Ingraham that the recent focus on women's issues is a "distraction" tactic by President Obama.

"There is no war on women," Haley said. "Women are doing well. But women are thoughtful... we are more thoughtful than a label. We care about jobs and the economy and health care and education. We care about a lot of different things. So don't label us and call us victims."

When asked about the gender gap in recent polls, some of which show Obama leading likely GOP nominee Mitt Romney by as much as a 20-point margin among female voters, Haley expressed confidence that the former Massachusetts governor would eventually win over women.

"I think he's got the best golden bullet in the world, which is Ann Romney," Haley said. "I think that will all change."

Last week, Haley made similar comments when she told ABC's "The View" that "women don't care about contraception."

"They care about jobs and their families," Haley said.

Haley's latest comments echoed similar statements by fellow members of the Republican party, including Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who called it a "manufactured issue," on Monday.

Reince Priebus, the chair of the Republican National Committee, also objected to the idea of a gender battle, comparing it to the media creating a "war on caterpillars."
