Play Me I'm Yours Los Angeles: 30 Public Pianos Bring Music To The Streets Of LA

Public Pianos Bring Music To The Streets Of LA

Feel free to call Luke Jerram The Piano Man. Since 2008, his public art experiment, "Play Me, I'm Yours" has brought melody to the streets all around the world.

The installation is comprised of over 500 pianos which are available for any member of the public to sit down, play and enjoy. "Play Me, I'm Yours" was designed to foster hubs of creativity and togetherness through the act of spontaneous music-making.

Previously, his pianos have appeared in cities such as Malta, London, Geneva, Austin, Grand Rapids, San Jose, Cincinnati, New York, Barcelona, Sydney and Sao Paulo.

And now! "Play Me, I'm Yours" (PMIY) is in Los Angeles.

After preparing for over a year, thirty pianos have been brought to LA with help from the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Hollywood Piano Co. and other local sponsors, reports the Los Angeles Times. The pianos have been designed and decorated by local artists in celebration of their conductor, Jeffrey Kahane's 15th year at the Orchestra.

The local pianos can be found in Santa Monica, Culver City, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Downtown, South LA, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank. After a 30-pianist simultaneous performance of Bach's "The Well-Tempered Clavier" at all locations, the pianos will be free for everybody to pound on.

Check out Play Me, I'm Yours for all the piano locations.

The pianos will remain in place through May 3, and players are encouraged to upload videos from their experience to the PMIY LA site.
