In 2007, Jason Segel starred in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and he not only showed the world that he could be a leading man, but he also famously showed the world his nether regions. Unfortunately, for fans hoping to catch another full-frontal glimpse of Segel, it looks like that was a one-time engagement.
Despite rumors that Segel's latest film, "The Five-Year Engagement," would feature similar full-frontal exposure, the scene -- which was actually Segel's idea -- was ultimately cut from the film.
"I thought of it at the time as an homage to 'Sarah Marshall,' but then when we saw it, it just seemed gratuitous," said Segel at the world premiere of "The Five-Year Engagement" at the Tribeca Film Festival Wednesday night. "There's no need for it. People already know what it looks like, and we also couldn't find a lens that was wide enough."
Writer and director Nicholas Stoller, who also teamed up with Segel for "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," added that it felt like "too much," before joking about Segel's crotch and its new look.
"His penis was getting a bit of an ego," Stoller told The Huffington Post, "And you know what? It hasn't changed much since 'Sarah Marshall.' I'll be honest. It's basically the same. Although, he did go Brazilian, so that's really the only difference. He more than trimmed. It's naked."
For all of the true Segel enthusiasts, Stoller hinted that the deleted NSFW scene could make a great DVD extra, but until then, fans will be happy to know that Segel's behind gets plenty of exposure in his latest film.
After all Segel's willingness to bare it all on screen only makes him more "charming," producer Rodney Rothman told The Huffingon Post.
"He's never afraid to show flaws or a certain ugliness in the characters that he plays," said Rothman. "He's always been like that, since he was a teenager and we started working for him. When we first met him, we were like, 'Yeah, this guy is probably going to become famous, but in a weird way.' He has a weirdness that is more relatable. When we did 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' Jason, in real life, had written a vampire musical and didn't know that it was funny. That was real. And it was weird."
Segel, of course, will be the first to admit that he definitely has more than a few weird tendencies. "When I write, I wear a full bear onesie with feet, like a little kid in pajamas," the actor jokingly told a group of reporters. "It makes me feel saucy."
And somewhere in between writing in his onesie and crafting vampire musicals, Segel still dedicates time to playing with his puppets, which ultimately, makes him one of the most desirable men in Hollywood.
'Women also want to be with a guy with a room full of puppets," said Rothman. "That's the real takeaway here."
