Robin Gibb has been fighting for his life since contracting pneumonia, which ultimately left the Bee Gees singer hospitalized in a coma. Gibb's family members, including his brother (and fellow Bee Gees member) Barry Gibb, have tried singing to him in an effort to bring him back to consciousness, his wife Dwina Gibb has said.
"His brother Barry, his wife Linda and son Stephen came over from America," Gibb's wife told The Impartial Reporter. "Barry was singing to him. Thousands of people are saying prayers every day."
Gibb had recently composed his classical debut with "The Titanic Requiem," which was written to mark the 100th anniversary of the infamous ship's sinking. The score, which he worked on with son Robin-John Gibb, premiered at an event in central London. He was scheduled to perform a new song, "Don't Cry Alone," at the event, but he was too ill to attend the April 12 event.
The Bee Gees singer has been in and out of the hospital for surgery to battle his chronic intestinal troubles. In November, he revealed that he was battling colon cancer that had spread to his liver. Despite the health scares, Gibb seemed in good spirits this January.
In a blog post for The Daily Mail, he wrote, "I have undergone chemotherapy, however, and the results -- to quote my doctor -- have been ‘spectacular’. It’s taken a toll, naturally, but the strange thing is that I’ve never felt seriously ill. I’ve mostly felt great."
Sadly, in March, Gibb had emergency surgery for a perforated intestine caused by a blood clot. His health has never fully recovered.
