Swann Auction Galleries Will Sell Rene Magritte's Surprising Commercial Posters (PHOTOS)

We don't know about you, but when we think of Rene Magritte we imagine bowler hats, mysterious clouds and cryptic green apples. We certainly do not think of commercial posters.

And yet here they are, the little-known collection of Magritte's sheet music covers, which we first saw on Hyperallergic. These covers exude a 1920's art deco sleekness we would expect from advertising while maintaining a hint of that Magritte mystery we love so much. They will be auctioned at Swann Auction Galleries' poster sale next month, and are expected to go for around $1,000 (which, we must say, is quite the bargain).

Does this finding tarnish the Magritte mystique? Or is it comforting to know your idol had a day job like the rest of us? Check out the posters below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
