Dan Savage Slammed By The Catholic League After 'Obscene' Elmhurst College Speech Hits Internet (VIDEO)

Dan Savage Slammed Again: Group Demands Apology After Activist's 'Anti-Catholic' College Speech

A religious group are once again fuming over Dan Savage, after video footage that shows the outspoken lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights activist engaging in an "obscene, anti-Catholic" rant that implies gay children are beaten "because of religion" and "attacks" Pope Benedict XVI has surfaced.

"The Pope recently said that gay marriage is a threat to the survival of the human race, because once gay marriage is legal, everybody’s gonna get gat married," Savage says in the clip, which was filmed during his April 29 appearance at Elmhurst College, according to Life Site News. "The Pope is projecting in saying nobody’s straight –- not the Pope, not anybody else."

The audience hoots in response as Savage adds, "What the Pope is saying is the only thing that stands between my d**k and Brad Pitt’s mouth is a piece of paper. I love that thought."

Children "watch their parents beat up gay people from afar with their checkbooks and their votes," he continues. “They feel entitled to beat up that gay kid in that school, because the adults in their lives are doing and giving their blessing to it, because of religion."

As CBS is reporting, Catholic League President Bill Donohue is among those who isn't laughing, and wants the president of Elmhurst College, Dr. S. Alan Ray, to formally apologize for Savage's remarks. Thus far, the school president has not commented, according to CBS.

"They had to have known about Dan Savage’s history of offering obscene anti-Catholic rants when they asked him to speak at the campus chapel," Donohue is quoted by the Catholic News Agency as saying. "The president of Elmhurst College must have known –- he was certainly there to welcome him."

Last month, Savage faced a backlash after his obscenity-laced speech at the National High School Journalist Conference in Seattle sparked a national controversy.

Savage, who urged the crowd to "ignore the bull---t in the Bible about gay people" and described the reaction of a number of students who walked out as "pansy-assed," later apologized for his actions. "I wasn't calling the handful of students who left pansies (2,800+ students, most of them Christian, stayed and listened), just the walk-out itself. But that's a distinction without a difference -- kinda like when religious conservatives tells their gay friends that they 'love the sinner, hate the sin,'" he wrote on his blog.

The "It Gets Better" activist also addressed the controversy in a podcast, noting, ""The folks who claim that I've attacked Christianity, or somehow misrepresented or misused the Bible, are lying. There are untrue things in the Bible and the Koran and the Book of Mormon and the Yellow Pages and every other sacred text out there...all Christians read their Bibles selectively."
