Oscars Outdoors: The New AMPAS Outdoor Theater Is Just In Time For Summer (PHOTOS)

Movie night just got a major upgrade.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just announced their new film venue just in time for summer: an outdoor theater and bi-weekly film series titled, "Oscars Outdoors."

Screenings will take place on Friday and Saturday nights, June 15 through August 18. "Casablanca," "The Princess Bride," "North By Northwest," "Back To The Future," and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," are just some of the titles being projected on the permanent 40 by 20 foot screen.

"I wish we could have built a drive-in theater," said AMPAS President Tom Sherak to ABC. "This is the closest we could get."

Expansive grounds provide ample space for lounging and City Councilman Eric Garcetti has even agreed to look into street closures in order to provide a more enjoyable movie-going experience, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Guests will be able to purchase $5 tickets (not bad!) online starting June 1. AMAPS members and students get in for just $3. The golden bonus? If you don't feel like stopping at the store to gather your picnic items pre-show, not to fear: food trucks will be on-site!

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and screenings begin at sunset. Free parking will be available at Academy Hollywood (1341 Vine Street).
