Miami Commission OK's $50 Million For Overtown Redevelopment

The Miami City Commission on Thursday approved a controversial plan to pump $50 million into the heart of Overtown, following two hours of impassioned public testimony and another 90 minutes of tense debate.

The plan, drafted by Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, had caused a stir one day earlier, when city officials said it might hinder the city's ability to finance other projects.
