Sherrod Brown Gets Assist From Democratic PAC In Ohio Senate Race

Sen. Sherrod Brown Gets Boost From New Supporter

A Democratic group announced Thursday that it would begin running commercials attacking Ohio Republican candidate Josh Mandel, who is challenging Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). Brown has faced an onslaught of negative advertising so far this election without outside help.

Majority PAC, which aims to help Democrats keep control of the Senate this year, said it was making a six-figure ad buy to air a commercial called "Running Man." The spot attacks Mandel, the Ohio state treasurer who was elected in 2010, for reneging on a promise to serve his full term.

Brown's campaign had previously received little help from outside labor or progressive groups. Only the League of Conservation Voters, an environmental advocacy group, had made a sizable ad buy in his favor. Conservative groups, in contrast, have targeted Brown's seat, spending millions on the Ohio race.

A poll released Thursday showed
Mandel trailing Brown by single digits.
