Copper complexion. Almond-shaped eyes. Jet black hair. Infectious smile. Clair Huxtable, no other TV mom has lived up to your iconic beauty or brains.
I spent my Thursday evenings as a child glued to my family's wooden television set watching "The Cosby Show" and pretending to be one of your long-lost daughters. As a firm yet fabulous wife, mother of five and attorney, you introduced America to an image of a black woman that shattered racial stereotypes -- long before Michelle Obama moved onto Pennsylvania Avenue.
From color-blocking sweatsuits to chunky necklaces and earrings to bold shoulder pads and knee-length skirts to jewel-toned silk pajamas, you gave me weekly lessons in how to dress like a lady. And how could I forget the way you went to bed wearing smokey eye makeup and dark lipstick.
As I celebrate the women in my life this Mother's Day, I would like to say thank you, Mrs. Huxtable. Your effortless elegance transcends time and trends -- inspiring me to always keep it classy.
