College Football Receiver Dies In Los Angeles

Ken McRoyal, a wide receiver for the University of Idaho, died early Sunday morning in Los Angeles, according to various reports.

Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear confirmed McRoyal's death in a brief statement, via the Idaho Statesman.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Kenny," Spear said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

According to KXLY.com, the 22-year-old McRoyal was shot and killed at a house party around 1:30 a.m. Police told the Kitsap Sun that McRoyal died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Los Angeles Times first reported the shooting, which happened at the Brewery Lofts in Lincoln Heights. The Times didn't initially report the victim's name, but said a 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police are reportedly investigating four suspects involved but no arrested have been made.

"It's a devastating loss," Idaho coach Robb Akey said in a statement released by the school. "We've lost a brother, a teammate, a family member. But, more importantly, a momma lost her son today."

On Friday, McRoyal wrote on his Facebook page that he was going to California to visit his daughter.

McRoyal, who was just completing his junior year, caught six passes for 35 yards last season.

UPDATE:Police confirmed that McRoyal was shot in the upper body on Sunday at a party at the Brewery Lofts in Lincoln Heights. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
