Modesto Cabral Drove Lexus Into Swimming Pool, Police Say (VIDEO)

BIG SPLASH: The Lexus In This Swimming Pool Wasn't Meant To Be A Mother's Day Gift

Modesto Cabral certainly provided an unforgetable Mother's Day for the Diaz family of La Puente, Calif.

But it's one that both he and they would probably rather forget.

Cabral, 40, allegedly plowed a Lexus through a cinder block wall surrounding the Diaz family's home and into their swimming pool early Sunday morning.

The big splash wasn't totally unexpected according to Janelle Diaz, 16.

"We woke up to an awful noise and looked outside, and a car was in the pool,” Diaz told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. "We had always joked around about it -- that someone was going to end up in the pool –- because they've hit our wall before."

Officials for the California Highway Patrol said that Cabral allowed his 2006 Lexus GS430 to drive through an intersection, over a sidewalk and into the family’s backyard, ABC News reported.

Cabral pulled himself to safety by squeezing through his car's passenger-side front window and only suffered minor injuries, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Licon, who told the paper that investigating officers determined he was "under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs."

Jail records show that Cabral was booked on suspicion of drunken driving and was being held on $10,000 bail, according to the Associated Press.

It is not clear whether he's hired an attorney, but was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail pending his scheduled arraignment Tuesday in El Monte Superior Court, according to the San Grabriel Valley Tribune.
