Police have released new details in the murder of a Chicago-area newlywed found stabbed to death in her wedding dress.
Estrella Carrera, 26, was pronounced dead shortly after she was found in a dry bathtub in Burbank, Ill. by police conducting a well-being check.
Her sister asked police to check Carrera's apartment on Sunday after she could not be contacted to pick up her 2-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter, according to ABC Chicago.
Carrera had married the father of her son Friday in a secret ceremony, celebrating with a party on Saturday, though friends say she did not tell guests she was celebrating her recent wedding when the group went to a bar or club, the Chicago Tribune reports. Relatives describe Carrera's relationship with her new husband as having been on-and-off for about three years.
Her death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy was conducted Monday, and police are investigating the incident as a "domestic situation," according to the International Business Times. No arrests have been made, but Burbank Police are urging neighbors not to panic, calling the death "an isolated incident stemming from a domestic situation."
Jason Tokarczyk, a neighbor, described Carrera as "quiet" to NBC Chicago, and said he never saw her with her son's father, whose name has not been released as no charges have been filed.
