Nicholas Kristof's 'Half The Sky' Trailer Highlights Plight Of Women Worldwide (VIDEO)

WATCH: Nicholas Kristof Releases Trailer For Film Series On Plight Of Women Worldwide

When Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn published "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" in 2009, they brought unprecedented attention to the global plight of women.

But the conversation is far from over. The movement, Half the Sky, released a trailer last week for its four-part PBS series beginning Oct. 1.

The movement seeks to spur people to take action on behalf of women who face oppression worldwide, according to the site. The campaign will use social media, celebrity endorsements, education tools and more.

"These problems exist, because we've created them," Susan Sarandon, one of the celebrity activists, says in the trailer. "So it's up to us to fix them."

Other advocates on board for global gender equality include Hilary Clinton, Christy Turlington, George Clooney, Zainab Salbi and Desmond Tutu, each providing a testimonial for the movement's mission.

Clinton discusses women as the basis of every society, and Turlington emphasizes training health care workers.
