Mitt Romney, Ann Romney Donate Maximum To Romney Victory Fund

Romneys Make Big Donation

Mitt Romney and Ann Romney each donated $75,000, the maximum allowed, to the Romney Victory Fund earlier this week, according to CNN and ABC.

The Romney Victory Fund, announced on April 4, is a joint fundraising effort by the Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee.

The campaign announced on Thursday that it had raised more than $40.1 million in April, a spike from $12.5 million in March. The campaign said it had $61.4 million in cash on hand.

Romney spent $45 million of his own funds for his unsuccessful 2008 run. Until now he has not spent his own money for the current election campaign.

Romney and his wife's donations, while significant and symbolic, are small in comparison to the six- and seven- figure donations by others to the super PAC supporting the candidate, Restore Our Future.

Presidential campaigns and national parties won't be the only groups shelling out cash this election season. Thanks to Citizens United and their biggest donors, listed below, super PACs will also be making their mark in 2012:
