Berenice Marlohe is about to blow up.
The 33-year-old French actress makes her American debut in the upcoming James Bond film "Skyfall," meaning she's the latest in a long line of famed Bond girls -- a subsect of actresses that began with Ursula Andress's performance as Honey Ryder in 1962's "Dr. No."
For her sake, Marlohe -- previously known for her work on French television -- isn't cursed with a character-name-as-double-entendre: she plays Sévérine in "Skyfall."
"My part is more like, let's say, classical," she told THR.com. "Interactions, acting, dialogue with the other actors. But I asked to be trained to fire guns, because I really felt like it would help me [push] the character in the direction I wanted her to be -- in terms of being focused and strong."
Directed by Sam Mendes, "Skyfall" finds James Bond (Daniel Craig) in a perilous situation after his past comes back to haunt him. (Is there any other kind of situation for James Bond?) Marlohe says that fans should be excited for the 23rd Bond film since 1962.
"They have a fantastic cast and a fantastic director," she said at the Cannes Film Festival while unveiling footage from "Skyfall." "They really can expect one of the better, if not the best Bond ever. I really think they will really enjoy it."
