Brooke Shields' Style Evolution: From 'Pretty Baby' to Gorgeous Woman

Brooke Shields Goes From 'Pretty Baby' To Gorgeous Woman

Brooke Shields was certainly a pretty baby. At just 11 months, her business-savvy mother decided it was high time her daughter break into show business and auditioned her for an Ivory Soap commercial. Shields went on to turn heads with her controversial career choices, posing in risqué television ads for Calvin Klein jeans and appearing in numerous films that seemed to sexualize the young girl ("Pretty Baby" and "The Blue Lagoon," to name a couple). After spending the '80s rubbing elbows with everyone from Michael Jackson to Bob Hope, the actress made a successful comeback with "Suddenly Susan" in 1996, leading to a long string of television guest appearances.

As a Vogue and Vogue Paris cover girl, the stunning brunette always pulled off the trends du jour, whether she wore big hair and strong shoulders or red lips and a '90s power suit. (Not to mention the fact that she set trends -- her much-copied eyebrows come to mind.) Shields was able to make the successful leap from child star to adult actress and activist, aging gracefully in refined gowns and cocktail dresses and seldom making a red carpet misstep. As Morticia Addams in the 2011 Broadway production of "The Addams Family," the former model showed her more ghoulish side through her character's gothic costumes. We're excited to see what other sartorial twists her career has in store.

As Brooke celebrates her 47th birthday on May 31st, we're taking a look back at the fashion icon's style over the years. Vote on all her looks in the slideshow below.
