'Nurse Jackie' Renewed: Showtime Orders Season 5

Showtime Renews 'Nurse Jackie'

"Nurse Jackie" has been renewed for a Season 5. Showtime is bringing back the Edie Falco-fronted comedy, but with some changes.

Former "Dexter" executive producer/showrunner Clyde Phillips will takeover as showrunner of "Nurse Jackie."

“Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television,” said David Nevins, president of entertainment at Showtime, said in a statement. "We are so thrilled with the series' performance this year, and we know that with the incomparable Edie Falco in front of the camera, the fifth season of 'Nurse Jackie' will be even better.”

Now in its fourth season, "Nurse Jackie" is averaging 2.77 million viewers (including On Demand, replays and DVR viewing), according to Showtime. The Season 4 premiere had 1.1 million viewers.

Season 5 of "Nurse Jackie" will begin production in late 2012.
