Chris Rock Goes After Chris Brown On 'Today Show' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Chris Rock's Awesome Chris Brown Joke On 'Today'

When "Today Show" anchor Matt Lauer said Thursday morning that "We're hoping the same kind of weather hits us tomorrow when we've got Chris Brown out on the plaza," guest Chris Rock couldn't leave that alone.

"Did you say you hope the same weather hits you?" Rock said, referring to Brown's 2008 domestic assault conviction after he beat up then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Lauer immediately realized his problematic choice of words, and jokingly asked, "Should we fix that one for the West Coast?"

But Rock wouldn't let him off the hook. "We hope this weather doesn't smack us upside the head tomorrow," the comedian said, before Elmo (who was also on the show) tried to diffuse the tension. We can only assume that Elmo is unaware of the harsh realities of domestic abuse.

Rock, who was on the show to promote "Madagascar 3," has never been one to hold his tongue on live broadcasts if he thinks a joke is funny. In 2010, right after Jay Leno returned to "The Tonight Show," Rock couldn't stop asking a visibly uncomfortable Leno about Conan O'Brien.

Famously, Rock upset Sean Penn when he hosted the 2005 Oscars, due to a quip claiming that Penn's friend Jude Law was in too many movies.

At the last Oscar ceremony, he introduced the Best Animated Film Oscar with a bit about how easy voice acting is, which many saw as a breath of fresh air in a dull ceremony, but some professional voice actors found distasteful.

Going after Brown may be safer territory. After Brown was heavily featured in this year's Grammys ceremony, the awards show saw enormous backlash for celebrating a man who seemed defensive and unapologetic about his violent past.

So will Team Breezy go after Chris Rock? That's a fight we'd love to see.
