State House Approves Public Lighting Authority For Detroit

State representatives saw the light on Thursday night, approving legislation that, with Senate approval, will allow Detroit to transfer its troubled streetlight system to a public authority.

A dispute over union workers had nearly derailed the process, resulting in two scrapped votes in as many days before a friendly amendment encouraged Democrats to rally behind the main bill, which eventually passed 79-27.
