A Year With Children: New York City Student Art At The Guggenheim

Student Art At The Guggenheim

Not many elementary schoolers can boast about having their artwork on display in one of New York's most famous art museums. But for lucky students from eleven of the city's public schools, that's what happens at the Guggenheim each year.

This spring, paintings, drawings and other works of art by the 41st group of students to participate in the Guggenheim's Learning Through Art Program -- which has brought artists, teachers and children together across the city since 1970 -- joined pieces by Picasso, Cézanne, Monet inside the museum's walls for the exhibition "A Year With Children 2012."

"One of my most favorite parts is seeing the students' eyes light up when they have the opportunity to see work from their school on view at the museum," the program's senior manager, Greer Kudon, told HuffPost. To these students, she says, it represents "the validation of their artwork as something of import and value to the community."
