These days a girl must prove her fashion prowess by keeping on top of all the designer collaborations. There's Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl's in the works, Calvin Klein by Francisco Costa for Macy's, the much-anticipated Maison Martin Margiela for H&M plus a fun accessories collab between H&M and the eccentric Anna Dello Russo.
In case that wasn't enough, here's another partnership to ponder: Derek Lam for Kohl's. In an article previewing Narciso Rodriguez's collection for Kohl's new Design Nation program, Women's Wear Daily mentions that Lam will follow Rodriguez as the second designer in the program. Slim sheathes and perfectly-tailored pants for all!
Although Lam's name carries less household influence than, say, Lagerfeld or Versace, his luxe designs are beloved by industry insiders and famous faces like Michelle Obama, Diane Kruger and Kristen Stewart. He's also got some experience in the collaboration department, having designed the "first-ever crowd-sourced collection" in partnership with eBay.
Since then, however, Lam has seemed wary of the high-low game. He told Styleite that he had originally sworn off the collaboration idea, "not because I was being a snob, but I felt like by the time I was ready ... it didn't feel fresh anymore -- so many people have already done it." He added, "I think collaborations are wonderful, but I'm always looking at it from, 'Are we doing something new?'"
Kohl's must feel new enough. WWD reports that Lam's spring collection for Kohl's Design Nation will follow Rodriguez's fall line. Kohl's declined to confirm or deny the rumor.
