Aaron Collins' last wish was to make a stranger happy.
In addition to expressing his desire to repay money he owed his parents, the 30-year-old, who passed away on July 7, had one request: "Leave an awesome tip (and I don’t mean 25%. I mean $500 on a f***ing pizza) for a waiter or waitress."
And his family did just that at Puccini's Smiling Teeth in Lexington, Ky.
During the outing, which was captured on camera, one family member explains Aaron's last wish to their server. Understandably, she's almost speechless.
"Are you serious," she says. "I don't even know what to do."
On their website, the family described Aaron as "generous" and "incredibly sentimental."
"Aaron lived his life quickly, not holding on to many things and always with a vigor to have experiences not possessions," they wrote on AaronCollins.org.
Now, the family is planning to continue performing the good deed in his memory.
In the YouTube video's description, Aaron's brother explains the family has collected more than $1,000 in donations to carry out similar random acts of kindness.
Although the charitable act has a touching backstory, it's not the first time a server has received a substantial gratuity from generous customers.
A couple dining at D’Amico’s Italian Market Café in Houston left server Greg Rubar a $5,000 tip. The pair were regulars at the restaurant, and when they learned Rubar's vehicle was destroyed after some thunderstorms rolled through the area, they left him the money and told him to "go buy himself a car."
