Jennifer Lopez says she was "stunned" when she heard the news that her friends, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, had split.
Lopez, who attended the couple's wedding nearly six years ago, sat down with "Entertainment Tonight" Thursday and offered some insight into the split, drawn from her own recent divorce from singer Marc Anthony.
"I'm sad for them. They're both really lovely people, and just like Marc and I, it's not what you want to happen," Lopez said. "You fight and you try until you realize you can't anymore."
Lopez, who announced Friday that she would be leaving "American Idol," said she hasn't spoken to either Holmes or Cruise since the split, but that she's "thought about it a lot."
With two children of her own from her marriage to Anthony, Lopez also considered the impact the split might have on Cruise and Holmes' 6-year-old daughter, Suri, and Cruise's two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
"You know I just wish them peace in their decision. And really for Suri and their other children as well, because you become such a family," she said. "It's not just Suri, it's Connor and Isabella and everybody; you all become a family. And when that breaks apart, nobody wins; everybody's heartbroken in some way. And I just wish them peace."
