'How I Met Your Mother' Season 9: CBS, 20th Century Fox In Talks

Will There Be A Ninth Season Of 'How I Met Your Mother'?

Could Barney, Robin, Ted and the rest of the gang be headed back to CBS for a 9th time?

Season 8 of "How I Met Your Mother" airs this fall, and according to Variety CBS and 20th Century Fox are already in negotiations for a ninth season of the sitcom. With a surprising peak in ratings last season -- the show averaged 8.5 million viewers and a 3.4 rating in the key 18-49 demographic -- CBS could benefit from another season.

The excitement over "How I Met Your Mother" isn't limited to its network. When HuffPost spoke with Josh Radnor (Ted) in May, he expressed his excitement over the turn the "How I Met Your Mother" plot has taken, particularly in regards his on-screen love interest Ashley Williams (Victoria).

"I love working with Ashley," Radnor said. "She came back for that episode earlier this year, and it was super fun. [The writers] wanted to bring her back after seeing us together again -- they just love that. So they brought her back, and we had such a fun time. And it looks like she'll be back at the beginning of next season!"

"How I Met Your Mother" returns to CBS on Mon., September 24 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS
