Erick Morillo's 'Subliminal 2012' Compilation: Hear An Exclusive Preview Of Master DJ's Mix (VIDEO)

Hear An Exclusive Preview Of Erick Morillo's Upcoming Mix

Erick Morillo, the Colombian-American DJ and house music producer known for outstanding mixes and high-octane club sets, has a new mix he wants you to hear.

He's been at it since the early '90s (back when house music was the anthem for seemingly illicit and never-ending parties full of music that no one knew all the words to), and he's retained a thirst for music steeped in funk and rhythm. That means there are few Afrojack-style bleepy breakdowns and little room for dubstep, but there is plenty of engaging music that translates seamlessly from your desk at work to a dark, foggy nightclub illuminated solely by the light cast off an ever-rotating disco ball.

We've heard "Subliminal 2012," his and SYMPHO NYMPHO (Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez)'s new compilation. Morillo made the mix to celebrate his Subliminal Sessions residency at Pacha in Ibiza (he's been a regular there for 12 years, a record). Boasting two hours of simple, elegant vibes, Morillo's subtle deckwork made us hopeful for electronic dance music's future. As more and more Americans wise up to "EDM," releases like Morillo's (and work from other masters like Art Department) are important reminders of the dance music that exists beyond the pop-house bangers blaring from today's radios and festival main stages.

Check out the video above for a preview exclusively available on HuffPost Entertainment and peruse other Morillo tracks in the gallery below. "Subliminal" will be released July 31. For what it's worth, the preview seems to concentrate on the more pop-sounding songs included in the mix.

Parting shot for those who aren't as familiar with house music: Erick Morillo is responsible for "I Like to Move It" -- the song that's been covered ad nauseum in the "Madagascar" movies. A full tracklist is available below the gallery.
