While some might consider the act of pounding out a scholarship essay about as pleasant as performing a belly flop, Water World has made the choice a little more straightforward with their belly flop for scholarships contest.

Along with an aching red belly, this year's 16th belly flop contest garnered the winner a $1,000 scholarship, a new laptop and two tickets to every country concert in Denver for the summer courtesy of 92.5 FM The Wolf.

Judges chose winners based on the size of their splash, their jump, and of course, the sound of their flops. The first drop was from 5-feet and the second was from 12-feet high.

Last year's contest hosted Professor Splash on the judging panel, holder of 17 Guiness World Records for different belly flops.

This year's winner was Paul Salcido, a middle-aged grandfather and Front Range Community College student. Second and third place winners took home $750 and $500 scholarships.
