Maryland Woman Shot In Head With Arrow

WASHINGTON -- A couple of weeks ago, The Washington Post reported that local girls, inspired by "The Hunger Games," have been signing up for archery lessons in droves.

The Associated Press on Wednesday reported on the less uplifting tale of a Maryland woman who was accidentally hit in the head with an arrow, probably shot by a crossbow:

Montgomery County authorities say a woman has been struck in the head by an arrow during an accident in the Damascus area.

Police say the incident occurred on Moxley Road as people were taking target practice outside a home on Tuesday night. Capt. Robert Bolesta, a police spokesman, says the arrow apparently did not enter the woman’s skull.

The 26-year-old was hit when the arrow "went through a bale of hay and then ricocheted."

WRC-TV/NBC4 reports that the woman was treated at a Baltimore hospital for "serious but non-life-threatening injuries," and was released on Wednesday.
