Suspect Arrested In String Of West Side Assaults

After appealing to the public for help finding a man suspected in as many as 15 attempted sexual assaults, police have arrested a Cicero, Ill. man in connection with the attacks.

Rainey was arrested after the armed robbery and attempted sexual assault of a woman in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood early Monday. He has been charged in connection with numerous attacks on women in the Humboldt Park and Wicker Park areas.

He was arrested early Monday after the armed robbery and attempted sexual assault of a woman in Logan Square, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Rainey has been charged with one count of robbery, seven counts of armed robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, and two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint, according NBC Chicago. Reports of multiple assault attempts on the Northwest Side since July 11 had frightened area residents in the weeks before police released a sketch of the suspect.

At Rainey's bond hearing Saturday, Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. said "everyone in Chicago will sleep better tonight," according to WLS.

Bourgeois called Rainey a "dangerous individual" and thanked police before issuing an order that he be held without bail, the Chicago Tribune reports. Rainey has been charged in 10 attacks, but police suspect he is responsible for at least twice as many incidents.
