In the two weeks since the shocking news broke that Kristen Stewart cheated on longtime boyfriend Robert Pattinson with a married director, there has been an endless stream of reports, rumors, lies and speculation from the media.

Stewart might have issued a very public apology for her "momentary indiscretion" with Rupert Sanders, but the 22-year-old actress is now choosing to retreat from both the public eye and her career.

On Thursday, multiple outlets confirmed that Stewart has dropped out of leading role in "Cali," a film directed by Nick Cassavetes and written by Michael Diliberti. According to the film's IMDb profile, Stewart is also credited as an executive producer, which in theory would mean this was a project she believed in, and makes her decision to drop out even more surprising.

There have also been reports that Stewart is ducking out of her promotional obligations for "On The Road," which is scheduled to premiere in London on Aug. 16. Sources told RadarOnline that Stewart will not be doing red carpet press for the film's premiere because she's "too ashamed to show her face in public right now," and she believes her appearance will distract from the movie itself.

Gossip Cop has already disputed Radar's story, claiming that Stewart was never scheduled to attend the event and explaining that it's not the large scale premiere the website was making it out to be. "On the Road" will hold its U.K. premiere at the Film4 Summer Screen program -- an outdoor film festival -- and it's unlikely that any of the film's stars will be present at the screening. The independent film already premiered at Cannes and it's not scheduled for release in the U.S. until Dec. 21, giving Stewart months before she'll be required to face the public.

Meanwhile, Pattinson has been handling the aftermath of the scandal very differently. The 26-year-old star was reportedly "heartbroken and humiliated" by Stewart's affair and her public apology. The actor went into hiding as soon as news broke and reportedly told Stewart to move out of their shared Los Feliz, Calif., home. Pattinson managed to stay incognito for days, reportedly staying at pal Reese Witherspoon's home in Ojai, Calif., and was first spotted partying at a Western-themed bar in the area this past weekend.

After taking some time for himself, Pattinson is now throwing himself back into his work -- just as his reps promised, the actor is, in fact, keeping all of his promotional obligations for his upcoming film "Cosmopolis." On Monday, he's scheduled to appear on "The Daily Show" and will follow that with an interview on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.
