'Shark Week 2012' Kicks Off With Awesome Aerial Footage Of Shark Attack On 'Air Jaws Apocalypse' (VIDEO)

'Shark Week': Aerial Shark Attack On 'Air Jaws Apocalypse'

What should exhausted Olympics fans do now that the summer games are over? Gear up for the 25th anniversary of Discovery network's "Shark Week," of course! The network kicked off the week of festivities and specials with "Air Jaws Apocalypse" (Sun. 9 p.m. ET on Discovery).

It may sound like a Syfy Saturday original movie -- and if it wasn't in development before, it probably is now -- but the dramatically named special was about researchers catching the most epic shots of great white sharks. Specifically, they were hoping to grab footage of the great whites leaping from the water to catch seals. Boy, did they!

For the anniversary, Discovery has partnered with some conservationists in an effort to educate as well as entertain. The hope is to provide exciting programming, while spreading a message of conservation about these largely misrepresented -- but still dangerous -- predators.

Tune in for more new and classic programming during the 25th Anniversary of "Shark Week" on Discovery.
