Giutzy Sells What Other Luxury Sites Don't (PHOTOS)

When it comes to luxury online shopping, it's safe to say that I'm picky. Firstly, I don't have much in the way of disposable income these days, so if I'm going to spend money, it had better be worth it. Secondly, I have a small coterie of sites that I've used time and time again over the years, with fabulous results (not so fabulous for my credit card, but that's another story).

In a time where sites like Net-a-Porter and Moda Operandi offer veritable shopping porn for retail fiends like myself, it really takes something extraordinary to wow me. So when I came across, an Italian site specializing in luxury handbags and shoes, I paused. Beautiful accessories will always catch my eye, but this time, there was something different: Wares from Belgian designer Veronique Branquinho, who, much to my dismay, had gone out of business a few years earlier.

I tracked down Giutzy founder Niccolo Carpani Glisenti to get the story behind the site and its connection to Branquinho. Glisenti named the site after his mother, Giovanna (all together now: awww!). The Italian businessman owns IRIS, which manufactures shoes from top designers like Michael Kors, Chloé, Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander and Rochas, just to name a few, and Giutzy is the natural online outgrowth of IRIS. I asked Glisenti what the advantage is to shopping Giutzy and he told me, "Because we are connected with the manufacturer, I know exactly what my competition is buying. So I buy what they're not buying ... and more. I always have the largest selection."

When it came to Veronique Branquinho, his answer was simple. IRIS had always manufactured her shoes, and when she went out of business in 2009, they offered to help her keep a secondary line going. According to Glisenti, the line has done well for them -- which makes sense, since Branquinho is showing again this upcoming Fashion Week.
