WATCH: Robin Roberts Announces Last Day Before Medical Leave

Robin Roberts has announced that Friday will be her last day before she starts medical leave.

The "Good Morning America" co-host was recently diagnosed with MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, after her battle with breast cancer. She will be receiving a bone marrow transplant from her sister, and will be away from the show for a few months.

On Monday, she announced that she will be checking into the hospital next Tuesday, September 4. "I'll begin the process," Roberts said. "It still takes about 10 days after being admitted because there are some things you have to go through before the transplant actually occurs."

She explained that she dropped her dog KJ off with friends over the weekend because she will be extremely susceptible to infection after the procedure.

Roberts had previously said that she would be taking leave for the surgery at the end of August. Her co-hosts and the "GMA" crew will be sending her off by paying tribute to "Robin's journey" throughout the week.
