If rapper Azealia Banks is fashion's new it-girl, then her hair is her proverbial Birkin bag, streaming behind her like a long, luxurious, purple-tinged status symbol.
We scooted over to Wednesday night's SPIN/Refinery29 party at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn to glimpse Banks' long mane in person, as well as to see her perform some of her hits for a capacity crowd. After Brooklyn band Hunters kicked off the night, Banks strode in wearing a black cutout corset-cum-romper featuring an elaborate bodice and whipped her long wavy hair back and forth through her songs "212" and "1991." (We also spied her leaving the party in a different outfit: a neon-striped rainbow maxi-dress.)
If Banks hasn't popped up on your radar yet, gird your loins, because we suspect this girl is headed for grand things. You might recall her Dazed magazine cover last month that was reportedly banned in seven countries. The up-and-coming Harlem-based rapper, who starred in a recent campaign for T by Alexander Wang, is performing another sartorially-themed show on Thursday at a New York City M.A.C. store for Fashion's Night Out.
Get it, girl.
