Kanye West Will Not Attend The MTV Video Music Awards

Kanye West WIll Not Appear At The VMAs

Kanye West's VMA appearances are always full of surprises. Last year, Kanye and his "Watch the Throne" collaborator Jay-Z were last-minute additions to the MTV awards show's lineup. In 2010, he closed the ceremony with "a toast for the douchebags" while performing his song "Runaway." And most memorably, West stormed the stage in 2009 to protest Taylor Swift's victory over Beyonce in the Best Female Video category.

But this year, we won't have Kanye's high jinks to look forward to: The Daily Mail reports that the rapper has canceled his appearance at Thursday night's Video Music Awards. According to the paper, he doesn't want to attend the Los Angeles show without girlfriend Kim Kardashian, who will be in New York to promote her fragrance, True Reflection, at Lord & Taylor for Fashion's Night Out.

Though Kanye wasn't scheduled to perform at the awards, his track "Mercy" is up for two awards: Best Hip-Hop Video and Best-Editing. And Kimye's appearance was especially anticipated given that that the couple starred alongside host Kevin Hart in this year's promo for the VMAs.

However, Kanye's rep told the New York Daily News that he wasn't even signed on to appear at the VMAs in the first place.

Whatever the case, we're a little disappointed to hear that the "Gold Digger" rapper will be MIA tonight. But if he is skipping the show to be with Kim, then perhaps he's a more supportive beau than we thought.
