Detroit City Council Votes To Issue Subpoena Against Bing

Mayor Bing Subpoenaed

Detroit -- The Detroit City Council Wednesday morning voted to issue a subpoena against Mayor Dave Bing to force him to share more details of his plan to reorganize City Hall.

The council voted unanimously after discussing the matter in closed session Tuesday. It did not discuss the issue before voting. Councilman Kwame Kenyatta was absent.

The infighting stems from the Bing administration's perceived unwillingness to include council members in restructuring plans dictated by the city's consent agreement with the state. The council is particularly concerned about moving forward with outsourcing the health and workforce development departments.
