Rachel Maddow enthusiastically mocked Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his interview on "Live! With Kelly and Michael" that aired on Tuesday.
In her signature "Best New Thing in the World" segment, Maddow said that Romney's interview with the Disney-ABC-distributed show was magical in that it allowed the candidate to appear on network television without having to address any questions about the controversial comments he made about the roughly 47 percent of Americans who do not pay income tax.
This was due to the fact that the interview was pre-taped and questions were more general to withstand the test of time (also known as an "evergreen" interview). Maddow said the interview took place with "a person named Kelly Ripa, and a person named Michael Strahan who are co-hosts of a new daytime talk show on ABC."
While "Live!" has been re-imagined since host Regis Philbin left the show last year, the morning program and Ripa's presence on it is far from new. Also, the program is distributed in national syndication by Disney-ABC.
Maddow highlighted one question in particular, when Strahan asked Romney if he preferred Honey Boo Boo or Snooki. "I kind of prefer Snooki," Romney said. Maddow likened the interview to a "parachute for a falling man."
