The annual Root 100 was released Thursday, and there were plenty of media figures among the honorees.

Every year, the site names 100 prominent black people between the ages of 25 and 45, who "represent the ideals" of The Root. Journalists were well-represented on the list, which included New York Times columnist Charles Blow, The Atlantic blogger Ta-Nehisi Coates and NPR host Audie Cornish.

The top media figure (who was the top person on the list overall) got her own MSNBC show this year. She made headlines for her coverage of Trayvon Martin's story and delivering a passionate monologue about being poor in America.
