Don't worry, Lloyd: There's definitely a chance. Directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly are thisclose to finishing the script for "Dumb and Dumber To," an official sequel to the 1994 comedy "Dumb and Dumber."
"We are almost done with the 'Dumb and Dumber To' (sic) script," the Farrellys wrote on Twitter, before one of them added, "I think you're going to like it."
"Dumb and Dumber To" has taken the equivalent of a cross-country trip to get here. In February of 2011, Bobby Farrelly said that if original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were onboard, the sequel would be "worthwhile." Carrey confirmed his interest in June of that year, putting the project into motion.
"We're getting set to shoot 'Dumb & Dumber 2' in September," Peter Farrelly told Coming Soon this past April. "It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."
That would mean "Dumb and Dumber To" should be filming now, but there were some road blocks. In June of this year, Carrey backed away, citing a lack of interest from Warner Bros. and New Line. Just two months later, however, Daniels said things were back on.
"Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it," he told Crave Online. "They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever.”
If filming does begin in May or June of 2013, that would put "Dumb and Dumber To" on track for release in 2014 -- 20 years after the original film.
"It picks up today," Peter Farrelly told Moviefone this year during press for "The Three Stooges." "It's 17 or 18 years later. It's not like a month after that happened. It's today. And we explain what they've been doing all those years."
