Scientists might disagree. But if you ask us, the building blocks of life are cake and icing, combined in portable form.
And fortunately, these elements have a new home in Midtown Miami. Sweetcakes Cupcakes has moved out from behind an Upper East Side laundromat and into a spankin' new space at 3301 NE 1st Avenue, slinging sugary goodness into the wee hours from platter after platter of cupcake confections.
From Dulce de Leche-Filled to White Chocolate Blueberry to The Diddy, made from raspberry Ciroc and raspberry puree, owner Barbie Roqueta makes dozens of inventively-flavored favorites and unique specials every day.
But it isn't just signature cupcakes ruling the roost. Roqueta's newest passion is donuts, so look for healthy baked options like Blueberry Lemon and Caramel Spice sitting alongside specialty whoopie pies, Rice Krispy slabs, cookies, macaroons, and 'real' pies.
Also new to Sweetcakes is a lineup of sandwiches, which have become a late-night go-to for Midtown residents craving good stuff like prosciutto and mozzarella or chicken and brie as late as 3:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Roqueta will soon start serving weekend brunch, with more of those baked donuts, cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, croissants, breakfast sandwiches, and more.
Sweet, right? Sweetcakes is now open from 9 a.m. every morning at Midtown 4, 3301 NE 1st Avenue. Call (786) 228-7944 for advance orders.
