Yes, we've heard rumors of a new Justin Timberlake album before. But maybe a pop music miracle has occurred and J.T. has decided to shine his musical light once more?
According to sources at Showbiz 411, Justin Timberlake is in L.A. working on a new album. The "hush hush" project has yet to be titled and will supposedly feature over a dozen new tracks from Timberlake.
Sony is said to be keeping the project under wraps, and if that's true, who could blame them? This is like pop music manna.
Timberlake's last album was 2006's FutureSex/LoveSound, a chart-topper that has sold over 4 million copies in the U.S. and solidified his spot as both a musical innovator and top-rated entertainer. Not to mention he resuscitated sexy -- a selfless act we will forever appreciate.
With the success of his sophomore album, everyone expected a followup in, well, less than six years. He has teased listeners with a few collaborations over the last few years but has released no new music of his own, instead focusing his creative energy on his acting career -- he starred in both "The Social Network" and "Friends with Benefits" alongside Mila Kunis.
The wait has been especially difficult for fans, leaving many with a hopeless longing for just a few new notes from the singer. (Huffington Post blogger DJ Louie XIV took time to share some possible reasons for Timberlake's absence.)
The most recent album rumors surfaced this summer. They were quickly shot down by Timberlake's publicist who told EW.com that the only project he had planned was "Shock Value 3." "That's it," the rep said at the time.
Timberlake gave his own take on his break from music telling The Associated Press he takes the album creation process seriously because producing a new album "is a really big deal."
"For me, personally, when I do sit down and decide to do it, it's just a special thing," he said.
And a special gift it would be for pop music lovers hoping JT is ready trade in his SAG card for a spot in the recording booth.
