LeAnn Rimes surprised many when she checked herself into a treatment center to cope with anxiety and stress on Aug. 30, but the 30-year-old country crooner says that therapy isn't anything new for her.

The singer has been in the spotlight since she was a young teenager, but Internet vitriol toward Rimes especially intensified when she married actor Eddie Cibrian in 2011. The pair infamously met on the set of "Northern Lights" in 2009, when they both were married to other people.

"I've been in therapy my whole life," Rimes now tells the Boston Herald in her first interview since treatment. "I like going. I like being able to have that third-party input and someone to listen that has nothing to do with your life. Everyone has an opinion of how I am and how I should be, and now I'm focusing on how I want to be."

As for dealing with the cyberbullying? Rimes, an avid Twitter user, said that she can't help but be hurt by the comments lobbed her way. (She echoes similar comments made recently by fellow singer Fiona Apple, directed at tabloids). "I think it's really hard to deal with Twitter and Facebook and all these social media outlets. And it's hard to take it day after day of reading and seeing that someone you don't even know says about you. As much as you said you don't want it to penetrate, it does, because you're human."
