On Jan. 14, 1954, Marilyn Monroe and retired baseball player Joe DiMaggio were married in San Francisco. By Oct. 4, 1954, the marriage was over.
In the Oct. 5, 1954, Los Angeles Times, columnist Hedda Hopper reported Marilyn Monroe decided to divorce Joe DiMaggio. Hopper wrote:
Marilyn Monroe yesterday decided to divorce Joe DiMaggio.
The voluptuous actress instructed her attorney, Jerry Giesler, to file suit today on grounds of mental cruelty.
And then she went back to her “honeymoon house” at 508 N. Palm Drive, Beverly Hills, to talk over the separation with Joe…
Giesler said the couple “talked it over” all day and “reached a pleasant understanding.”
