Perfect Puffer Vests For Fall-ish Weather (PHOTOS)

Ideal If your idea of hiking is making it to the top floor at Bloomingdales.

Remember back in college when the idea of getting dressed was as simple as grabbing whatever was clean (hey, those quarters for the laundry machine went fast!) and your most pressing concern was making it through microeconomics without falling asleep on your desk? The only style that mattered was what you were wearing to that night's frat party, and your daily uniform consisted of a Jansport backpack and a Patagonia vest, no doubt.

Now here we are, all grown up, and backpacks and down-filled vests are de rigeur again. If you are an outdoorsy type, by all means, dust off your North Face vest. But if your idea of hiking is making it to the top floor at Bloomingdales, then a fleece probably isn't your idea of stylish outerwear.

The down-filled vest, also called a "puffer" vest for its Michelin Man-like appearance, is having a moment. Peter Dundas at Emilio Pucci took the house's signature scarf prints and put them on the cozy outerwear. We are feeling a puffer vest these days because it adds a bit of irony to our oh-so-citified look: Pair the topper with your leather leggings and high-heeled booties to keep your outfit daytime-appropriate. Not to mention the fact that it wards off the chill without going whole hog in a coat or jacket.
