Cheerleader Kendall Williams got something to really cheer about at her high school's homecoming game earlier this month: a surprise visit from her Navy dad whom she hadn't seen in months.
The emotional reunion took place before a Friday night football game at Clyde A. Erwin High in Asheville, N.C., just before the national anthem was about to start. The announcer told the crowd there would be a tribute to Petty Officer Dale Williams, a Navy diver stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, reports WLOS-TV.
With cameras rolling to capture the moment, Kendall has a quizzical look on her face as her father, unbeknownst to her, marches out from behind a color guard. A few seconds pass before she realizes the man in camouflage walking toward her is her father. The two embraced for a heartfelt reunion.
"When i called her name and she turned around... I lost it myself," Williams said. Earlier he had predicted the moment would be special. "I think its going to be a total shock and surprise and she'll probably be crying her eyes out," he said.
He was right.
"I saw him behind me," Kendall later said. "When he came up behind me, I was like woah!"
Though their reunion was short -- Williams had to return to duty Saturday night -- the father and daughter said they would probably pul an all-nighter to make every moment count, reports the Asheville Citizen-Times.
