The World Series is truly an exciting time for baseball fans nationwide. While the playoffs will inevitably produce a few sore losers along the way, a series of tweets sent by frustrated St. Louis Cardinals fans is truly disturbing.

After watching the Cardinals lose Game 7 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) to the San Francisco Giants 9-0, crestfallen fans took to Twitter, poking fun at the Bay Area's renowned gay population. (WARNING: contains graphic language)

After the story was first reported by SFist and Memphis TV WREG among other media outlets, a number of fans have tweeted apologies. But other Cardinals fans seem divided about the incident.

“They were disappointed. It was a bad week, bad day, bad three days. Come on. Give them a break," one fan is quoted as saying. "They’re from San Francisco. What are we supposed to say? Come on, it’s tough. You get us at a bad moment."
