Shelter dogs are often some of the most loyal companions a person can find, which is why it's so sad that millions are sitting in shelters nationwide. According to the ASPCA, "only 20 to 30 percent of cats and dogs are adopted from shelter or rescue groups."
October has been designated National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month to promote awareness for homeless animals and encourage people to consider adoption instead of buying a dog from a breeder or a pet store.
